COCORO NAKAURA Solo Exhibition 2022

ーOwn influenceー

Introducing the first solo exhibition by Cocoro Nakaura at the Artglorieux gallery, featuring works revolving around the central theme of "pop art in the digital age."

Inspired to create them after realizing that he was spending more time staring at his smartphone screen rather than the passing scenery during his commute to art school, Nakaura formulated each of his art pieces in the pop-art style, inspired by large numbers of images from various unknown origins.

Pop art is an expressive form from a past era of mass production and mass consumption which aimed to sublimate things encountered in daily life into unique art.

Now, Nakaura explores the very essence of modern-day pop art through works that make use of contemporary, mass-produced images.

We hope you enjoy experiencing for yourself the unique perspectives on pop art provided by this active art student.

Takahiro Hirabayashi small works 2022

Do you know “Doso-shin” ?
Roadside deities have been enshrined as guardians of villages in Japan since ancient times. (Doso-shin is a deity on roadsides)

Additionally, it was combined with the faith for Doso-shin, so many statues were built as 'guardian deities of the barriers of town' outside of towns or on streets.

The artist, Mr.Hirabayashi, is from Nagano Prefecture, which is said to have many Doso-shin. As if unraveling his own roots, he breathes life into the Doso-shin and continues to draw them.
In this exhibition, the artist present a series of scaled images of the Doso-shin.

What if the little guardian gods were alive in the 21st century? …!
Please enjoy the exhibition while imagining.

Ai Kumehara Solo Show 2021

Artist Ai Kumehara studied Japanese painting at Tama Art University and graduated with a master of fine arts degree. Her unique approach entails the use of mineral pigments, for which color mixing is very challenging, as well as application of thin washi traditional Japanese paper sheets and colors alternately, resulting in hazy, somewhat indistinct sections in the finished image that seem to be appear as if shrouded in mist. This imparts a greater sense of depth to the color tones. Furthermore, this process of repeatedly overlapping colors and washi fuses both material types into one, giving them greater depth while cultivating a poetic feel in the uncolored white spaces. In recent years, Kumehara has collected wood refuse and other materials from the places where she resides and used them as media for depicting things she observes in gardens, giving viewers insight into her discoveries regarding our coexistence with Mother Nature. For this exhibition, the artist is also showcasing works she created during her time living in Denmark. We hope you will witness for yourself that new stage in this artist's development born amidst the natural environments of Northern Europe.
